The power of data science and AI
Our vision – To make Essex national leaders in using the power of data science and AI to tackle public policy challenges.
Our roadmap to accelerate us towards realising our bold ambition:
- Make Essex a place that is exemplar for integration of data across public bodies
- Deliver predictive analytics based on ethically high standards
- Build a sustainable data infrastructure
- Create the best data science / analytical capabilities in the UK to benefit our people and communities
Partnership diagnostic and capability assessment
We'll work across the whole Essex to understand where we are now in relation to our analytics maturity journey and identify our existing capabilities and infrastructure across the partnership. This includes mapping out all existing work to improve levels of awareness and identify what impact we have made and where to next.
Develop joint partnership skills & capabilities
Partners will develop joined up skills and capabilities across the whole system to implement data-driven solutions towards prevention and benefit local people and businesses.
Create dynamic learning opportunities for social good
There is a need to have a continuous view on what best in class / cutting edge looks like, ensuring we are constantly learning from others and developing our talent locally to the benefit citizens and local businesses of Essex.
Developing an Essex standard
Building a set of guiding principles that all partners can sign up to, will ensure that we are following the highest possible ethical and protection standards in projects using data science and AI.
Essex system sponsors of this work include Gavin Jones Chief Executive of Essex County Council, Stephen Kavanagh, Chief Constable of Essex Police and Anthony Forster Chancellor of the University of Essex.
Next steps: Nesta Data Maturity Toolkit
A partnership self-assessment is currently being undertaken to identify assets, capabilities and capacity across the system. Part of this includes completion of the Nesta Data Maturity Tool.
We are encouraging partners from across Essex's public sector to contribute to this assessment. The Nesta Data Maturity Tool is designed to help you make an honest assessment of how advanced organisation's are at dealing with data.
We want to collect a thorough response from across different roles within Essex. Your results contribute towards aggregate scores for your role, business function, and organisation. This will feed into our phase 1 diagnostic along with other evidence being collated.
You can access the short survey at https://datamaturity.esd.org.uk/
You need to register and sign in so that your results can be saved
