Local communities in Essex are set to benefit from major funding aimed at increasing participation in sport and physical activity.
Sport England will be investing £100 million of National Lottery in 12 Local Delivery Pilot Schemes across the country, including Essex, over the next four years to create partnerships that make it easier for people to access sport and physical activity.
Currently 22% of the population across Essex is classified as inactive, at a cost of £58 million per year to the NHS in Essex.
The Essex bid was submitted by The Essex Health and Wellbeing Board and Active Essex in partnership with Basildon Borough Council, Colchester Borough Council, Tendring District Council, the University of Essex and other partners.
Join Azeem Akhtar, Chair of Active Essex, Jason Fergus, Head of Active Essex and Sport England, at the Essex Assembly on 6 March to hear how this initiative can create real impact and whole system change for Essex.
